The county government comes as a remedy of the residents of Trans-Nzoia County.
That the residents have been wallowing in poverty and hunger shall be a thing of the past
Once the county government becomes full operational. As the country experiences drought and food shortage we as leaders are compelled to think hard and try to come out with measures that shall cushion our people against them.
The first major step will be to put up a horticultural processing plant and a collection centers in every constituency to collect firm produce. We shall need to produce canned food that can stay on the shelves for five years. Mothers will be able to deliver tomatoes at collection centers in their respective areas to curb the waste that is witnessed during harvest. Today when you walk in Kitale town you will find mothers selling tomatoes at twenty shillings per 1 kilogram bag. Though this price is low, the supply outweighs the demand and at the end of the day the tomatoes go to waste. This is why am of the view that if we have a processing plant we shall able to buy all the tomatoes and onions and process them for future use or even export.
If we as a county will be able to salvage tonnes of mushrooms that go to waste every year, if we be able to buy all cabbages that are harvested our county will be rich, and our people will no longer live from hand to mouth. Canned mushrooms can be kept for three years, processed cabbages can be exported to Turkana and Isiolo counties, and this will restore Trans-Nzoia to its original status- The country’s bread basket.
Back to the Processing plant, it will be able to sustain about a thousand people in employment an collection centre’s staff will ensure that during the start of long rains no mushrooms shall be left in the field, children shall be encouraged to harvest and bring weigh it at collection centers, then they will be paid according to the weight.
After all is said and done we shall substitute tomato sauce imported from South Africa and canned mushroom from Israel with our own
